Julian Ku at Opinio Juris rebuts recent conspiracy theories promulgated by The Guardian here that William Taft served as a Bush administration "bully" charged with changing Lord Goldsmith's opinion on the Iraq war.
I share Julian's belief that it is highly unlikely that US administration attorneys have the power to demonstrably shift the legal opinion of Lord Goldsmith. As usual, I think the likely explanation is a bit more mundane...diplomatic give and take to reach common ground on a very complex issue.
