Is the French assimilatory model to blame?

Probably provoked by the rioting in France, similar incidents (on a much smaller scale) occured in Belgium and Germany. Most of the observers, including Lorenzo (if I fully understand him) tend to blame the French assimilatory model, however, if one looks at the multiculutral Belgium one can also see deep soical tensions among first and second generation immigrant population...is the problem, one could ask, really in the French model (formally speaking) or the problem lies somwhere else, are our societies sociologically, profoundly hostile towards "the other" and they react in such a way as to marginalize the imigrants which brings about necessary social tension, which in turn provokes the violent reactions of the marginalized. The real dillemma is about the ability of the state to answer to such situation.
